The Otley ™ works on a ball-and-socket arrangement, where the ball is allowed to roll rather than rub. The 2 hook-shaped flat springs prevent the main shaft from rotating but allow free movement around the vertical axis only.
The Otley ™ is a revolutionary new concept. It completely eliminates bearings and bushings from the main working areas, a constant source of problems.
The lower flat spring drive replaces the conventional wobble bearing. Conventional bearings rarely rotate more than 15° so in lens production they only have a short life because of the uneven wear.
